The elaborate and potentially risky manual cleaning of the air cleaner filter element with construction and agricultural machinery is now a thing of the past: The innovative self-cleaning air cleaner ENTARON XR from MANN+HUMMEL saves time and money for customers and protects the health of users. of the objectives of the Paris climate agreement. In this interview, Heinz Bühl,

Vice President New Product Entry, explains why clean mobility is closely connected to a future overall concept for energy management and how the MANN+HUMMEL product range is already making a contribution.

The fuel cell is one option for balancing mobility and climate protection in the future. MANN+HUMMEL also supplies tailor-made filtration solutions for hydrogen propulsion systems. The ion exchange filters from the new IonFree modular kit reliably protect the fuel cell stack against dangerous short circuits and reduce system costs.

MANN+HUMMEL has developed an air cleaner system for the V6 twin turbo gasoline engine in the new Cadillac CT5 which combines two filter elements in one housing. Two integrated broadband silencers and numerous other functions make the system twice as efficient.

The MANN+HUMMEL oil filter module for the 4-cylinder gasoline engines of the Mercedes-Benz AG is significantly different to its predecessor in three ways. It has an aluminum die-cast housing, a larger cooler and double the cooling performance.

High-voltage batteries in electric vehicles require reliable protection against water, dust and pressure fluctuations. A number of years ago MANN+HUMMEL developed reliable venting units for this purpose. Now the VentPlus modular kit offers the right solution for each electric drive.

New filter media for cabin air filters from MANN+HUMMEL meets the US requirements for the MERV 16 filter class. That means it effectively protects drivers in cabs of construction machines against respirable silica dust.

In order to ensure constantly high performance, modern transmissions require efficient oil filters. This also applies to alternative propulsion systems. MANN+HUMMEL therefore offers a compact oil filter system for eAxles and hybrid transmissions which integrates many functions.

New engines have to offer high performance, be robust and clean. A Swedish car manufacturer has opted to use an intake manifold and a cooler unit with inlet and outlet shells from MANN+HUMMEL for its 4 cylinder diesel engines.

Legislation governing vehicle emissions is becoming stricter, the climate debate and therefore also the development of alternative drives is gaining momentum. One promising solution is the fuel cell used to supply energy to an electric drive. MANN+HUMMEL has now developed an innovative air induction system for the cathode path in order to ensure an efficient supply of clean air to the fuel cell.

In order to get to grips with fine dust pollution, especially in big cities, all kinds of measures are being taken or considered. In cooperation with its development partner Hitachi Automotive Systems, MANN+HUMMEL has made substantial progress with its brake dust particle filter and therefore also towards the improvement of air quality.

As an extension of the wide range of initiatives aiming to reduce fine dust pollution, MANN+HUMMEL has developed a world premiere in cooperation with HBPO. The pioneering concept of the innovative fine dust particle filter can now also be integrated into the front end of new vehicles.

Electrified drives help to reduce CO₂ emissions during driving and to decrease air pollution caused by pollutants such as NO_X and particulate matter. The resulting increase in the importance of alternative drives is currently accelerating the development of new filter applications at MANN+HUMMEL.

The intelligent FreciousSmart cabin air filter system from MANN+HUMMEL provides clean air and simultaneously reduces power consumption – a perfect concept for electric vehicles, such as for example Zoe, the best-selling EV model from Renault.

In the new cabin air filter system MANN+HUMMEL combines its extensive knowledge of air intake systems with its expertise in the area of cabin air quality. Here, the protection of the vehicle occupants is the first priority.

With its new spin-on oil filter with a plastic flange MANN+HUMMEL has put one and one together and instead of just two has ended up with many advantages.

Using Flexline technology MANN+HUMMEL is able to offer solutions which take complex installation space into account. The latest application is also characterized by the small but important detail of using vortex generators to ensure an optimum air flow to the air mass sensor and a particularly stable signal of the air flow.

Automated processes can reduce costs and save time. For this reason MANN+HUMMEL is working on a comprehensive software solution including sensor technology to monitor the filter status and as a result is setting standards when it comes to predictive maintenance.

Fuel cells generate clean energy and are an important component for sustainable energy production. MANN+HUMMEL offers efficient filtration solutions for this purpose and supplies the first series parts to Ballard Power Systems.

Digitization, sustainability and alternative propulsion systems dominate current discussions. MANN+HUMMEL is continuously working on new, innovative solutions for tomorrow's mobility. Kurk Wilks, President and General Manager Original Equipment explains in an interview how MANN+HUMMEL is positioning itself for the future.

The filtration experts at MANN+HUMMEL have now developed fuel filter media which are even more efficient to meet the future requirements for fuel filtration. In this process, new measuring and testing methods are also used.
