Higher charge pressures and temperatures are steadily increasing the demands placed on oil separators. MANN+HUMMEL's answer is the SD oil separator. The structured deflection plate of the oil separator reliably separates even the finest oil droplets.
The experts at MANN+HUMMEL have now also introduced this proven series technology in a large‑scale production project with Hyundai in Korea. The series start of a whole family of cylinder head covers for the Hyundai Sonata is made by the cylinder head cover for the 4-cylinder 1.8 and 2.0 liter naturally aspirated engines for the Hyundai Sonata. The integrated oil separation is made using two SD oil separators: one for full load operation and one for part load operation. For the operation under part load conditions the experts at MANN+HUMMEL use a positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system to regulate the crankcase pressure. The PCV system consists of a PCV valve in the part load path and a breather valve on the full load path. For practical purposes the PCV valve is integrated in the flange of the cylinder head cover to enable easy maintenance. A newly developed ball valve for the oil return is also integrated in each separation unit.
Depending on the engine variant, further cylinder head covers are used in the Hyundai Sonata. These include additional components such as, for example, a special breather for the crankcase or an interface for the gasoline pump.
