The cooperation between General Motors and MANN+HUMMEL remains successful: the all-new full-sized pick-ups now benefit from the fuel filter module with three-stage water separation.
MANN+HUMMEL has expanded the fuel filter family for General Motors. The module for the 3.0 and 6.6 liter Duramax diesel engines has been systematically further developed. The MANN+HUMMEL engineers have specially adapted the fourth variant for use in the new pick-up platform, e.g. for the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500.
The design of the fuel filter module is based on the previous variants. Proven design elements were adopted and the core remains the metal-free and environmentally friendly filter element with three-stage water separation. It separates even the smallest water droplets which have a size of just a few micrometers. In the first stage, the patented MULTIGRADE particle filter media retains dirt. In the second stage coalescence takes place where small droplets come together to form larger droplets. These are then separated in the third stage by means of a hydrophobic barrier. As a result, the filter module reliably protects the injection system.
Just as the three previous variants, the latest module also impresses through high water separation efficiency under real operating conditions and over the complete lifetime of the filter element. All the functions are included in a compact and light-weight plastic housing which simplifies integration in the existing installation space.
This is where MANN+HUMMEL has started with the latest variant, because the new platform requires the same performance as the previous variant, but in a smaller installation space. MANN+HUMMEL has taken this into account with the design of a new space-saving filter cover and a water drain plug with a fine thread. The electrical assembly comprising heater, temperature sensor and water sensor with an output of 300 watts is comparable to the previous variants. The housing of the assembly is also designed to save space. Depending on the vehicle application, the filter can be fitted using different types of metal brackets. The use of common parts reduces costs. Production for installation in the new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra started late summer 2019.
