Car manufacturers have global operations and require their suppliers to be global partners. MANN+HUMMEL is an A supplier in the Aligned Business Framework (ABF) from Ford and is therefore able to offer an international development and production network in combination with a high degree of intercultural competence.
At the Los Angeles Auto Show 2016, the time had finally come: Ford presented its compact SUV EcoSport to the American public. Developed as a global compact sports utility vehicle, led by the Ford Brazil team, it was launched in Europe, including Germany, at the start of 2014. One and a half years later and just in time for the US roll out Ford decided on an extensive facelift.
Ford is relying on partners with global operations for the worldwide production of the EcoSport. Components have to be quickly and reliably delivered to the international production plants. Moreover, the quality and standards have to be globally uniform. Efficient processes and short reaction times are also required as well as compliance with the local content requirements. Thus, for many years now Ford has focused on using a network of selected suppliers. With its A-supplier status, MANN+HUMMEL has been part of this network for more than six years.
MANN+HUMMEL delivers the air cleaner system for all engine sizes used in the EcoSport. The advantage of the air cleaner system is its excellent performance. The two sections of the dirty air duct each consist of two injection molded half shells which are clipped together. The enhanced design of all the plastic parts ensures good dynamic stiffness and gives the engine a full sporty sound. The multi-part clean air duct produced with a combination of blow and injection molded parts varies according to the respective engine size. For example, an integrated absorption broadband silencer achieves excellent dampening values in the smallest installation space. For the US market, the scope of supply includes an HC adsorber which is produced in Mexico.
MANN+HUMMEL currently produces the air cleaner systems in Brazil and China, and for some variations the ducts come from the MANN+HUMMEL location in Spain. There are plans to expand production to further international production sites to enable a local supply for the local production plants of the customer.
