Dr. Erich Hummel

Dr. Erich Hummel was born on October 26, 1893, in Schwaigern near Heilbronn in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. His father was a Protestant pastor and later a dean, and he grew up in an environment shaped by education and intellectual development. He first completed a commercial apprenticeship, gaining early experience in international trade and languages, before studying law at the University of Tübingen, where he graduated with highest distinction.

After entering professional life, Dr. Erich Hummel moved into industry and joined the textile company Bleyle. There, he worked on organizational, legal, and financial matters, building a reputation for precision, reliability, and strong analytical thinking.

Dr. Erich Hummel was characterized by a reserved and methodical personality. He approached decisions carefully and examined different options before acting. His structured way of working and attention to detail played an important role in shaping the company’s internal stability. He also had a broad intellectual curiosity and was known to quote Latin phrases, reflecting his strong academic background.

Together with Adolf Mann, Dr. Erich Hummel co-founded MANN+HUMMEL in 1941. He was responsible for legal, financial, and organizational matters, as well as international activities and licensing, supporting the company’s early expansion beyond Germany.

He also contributed to employee-oriented initiatives, particularly in the development of long-term systems such as pension arrangements.

Dr. Erich Hummel passed away in 1984 at the age of 91. His legacy lies in the stability, discipline, and continuity that formed the foundation for the company’s long-term development.
