The Trade Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing all import and export compliance activities for the United States, while also supporting related matters in Canada and Mexico. This role ensures adherence to U.S. and international trade laws and regulations, including those governed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and related agencies. The manager will also lead the administration of the CTPAT program and drive continuous improvement across global trade compliance practices.
Main Tasks
Develop, implement, and maintain a robust trade compliance program aligned with U.S. laws, international regulations, and internal policies.
Oversee all import and export operations, ensuring regulatory compliance across customs valuation, country of origin, and product classification.
Maintain and update the Customs Compliance Manual and related standard operating procedures across business units.
Serve as the primary point of contact for customs brokers; manage SOPs and evaluate performance.
Supervise import and export filings, including Importer Security Filings (ISFs) and AES filings.
Ensure the accuracy and integrity of product classification (HTS, jurisdiction, classification).
Maintain and manage global trade data (HTS codes, country of origin, classification) and ensure consistent communication of changes.
Design and deliver internal training on trade compliance topics.
Conduct post-entry and AES audits to verify adherence to applicable regulations.
Ensure proper record retention for all compliance-related documentation.
Act as the liaison with U.S. Customs and other regulatory agencies as needed.
Provide regular updates, compliance metrics, and regulatory changes to management and key stakeholders.
Recommend appropriate staffing or resource adjustments to support trade compliance functions.
Identify and execute duty recovery or cost-savings opportunities.
Resolve compliance issues in coordination with internal departments, brokers, and external vendors.
Your Profile
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
Experience:
8–10 years of experience in trade compliance for an importer/exporter
Proven experience with 19 CFR, EAR (15 CFR), Foreign Trade Regulations, and CTPAT
Experience using SAP or other ERP systems
Hands-on experience with HTS classification and jurisdictional determinations
Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office and ACE Portal
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Skilled in process documentation and SOP creation
