Global premiere: Smoke removal filter

Starting July 1, 2026, a new regulation for electric vehicle batteries will take effect in China. It requires batteries to operate safely for at least five minutes in case of fire or explosion. Ahead of that, MANN+HUMMEL has introduced an innovative solution: the smoke removal filter. This cutting-edge system features multiple gas-flow channels and opening stages for fast and reliable pressure relief within milliseconds. At the same time, its multi-layer filtration technology captures toxic smoke and particles, protecting both vehicle occupants and the environment.

How it works:

“By balancing internal and external battery‑pack pressures and providing rapid, staged venting even in the event of channel blockage, our smoke removal venting unit redefines thermal‑runaway protection” explained Xu Jie, President and General Manager of Passenger Vehicle. “Its durability under extreme temperatures, vibration and long‑term use makes it suitable for all types of traction‑battery systems.”
